Revelation is divine truth unveiled.  The Free dictionary says it is “a manifestation of divine will or truth.”  When people say they’ve had a revelation, they mean that something hidden or previously unknown has been made known or obvious to them.  Why is revelation important?  Why do we need it?  We need revelation because we are not all-knowing.  We do not possess all wisdom.

Even in relationships we can be misguided or deceived by what we see and hear.  Our emotions can betray us and leave us vulnerable.  However, when we get a revelation, truth is exposed.  God’s word is full of revelation about what is in people’s hearts, the deceitfulness of riches, ......

It was a peaceful, quiet and relaxing summer day at the lake.  Daniel and Felicia had settled their bitter fighting and quarrelling the day before.  They were usually shouting, punching and kicking each other.  The day before the police were called in to help de-escalate the most recent squabble.  In the end, they had to separate for the night.  When they came back together the following morning both Daniel and Felicia were apologetic.  They promised to change. They vowed to stop the violent outbursts.  It wasn’t long, however, before another violent episode started up again.  What was causing these episodes to happen so frequently?  It was strife.

Strife is ......

When people think of the word ministry, images of church, money, and preaching behind a pulpit come to mind.  But these don’t define true ministry.  Ministry is serving other people.  In the Bible you see many instances of Jesus serving people.  There was the time that he fed 5,000 men, plus women and children, after healing the sick.  And we can’t forget Lazarus and Jairus’ 12-year-old daughter, whom Jesus restored to life.  At the last supper, Jesus astonished the disciples by washing their feet.  And, we recall the wedding, where Jesus turned water into wine, when the host’s supply ran out.

Aside from a life earmarked by obedience and sacrifice, Jesus was always moved by ......

Ziklag is a fascinating biblical city and a place of spiritual significance.  The name Ziklag means winding and measure pressed down.

Ziklag is a spiritual place that we often find ourselves in.  Our life goes in different directions.  There are certain winding paths that are necessary to get us from one place to another.  Ziklag is necessary: it is the bending in the road, the winding path that works out of us certain fears and uncertainties.

We also experience the pressing down, the crushing and pressure that is necessary to sustain us in times of opposition.  Being crushed is a process that brings out hidden wisdom, strengths, talents, gifting, abilities and anointing.  Crushing pulls out and ......

Minutes after the meeting started, we felt that something wasn’t quite right.  Everything looked okay, but our internal alarm system was blinking code red.  Have you ever felt like that?  That sense of alarm that won’t go away even as you weave in and out of the crowd.  I remember it well.  The speaker was in full teaching mode and the audience was engaged, yet we felt a caution to stay alert.  It was hanging in the atmosphere.

Our “gut feeling” was confirmed the second we stepped into the lobby.  A husband and wife, attending the meeting, had gotten into an altercation in the lobby.   Surprisingly, you couldn’t hear any of the ruckus inside the ......

Charles was 18 years old when he was arrested for aggravated assault.  When we met, he was nervous and fearful about his future.  After serving 10 years in prison for hitting a co-worker, he was right to be concerned. Despite serving time for the felony, the world wasn’t so quick to forgive or forget his past offense.

Ex-offenders, like Charles, face tremendous challenges.  Their credibility is always in question, emotional support is minimal, and the world seems like a foreign place to them.

It is not easy to start over once you’ve “sinned.”  The word sin means “offend or trespass” or “to miss.”[1]   When a person commits a crime, they miss it......

An awe-inspired moment for the Israelites as they gather at the foot of Mount Horeb  Illustration

Illustration from a Bible card published by the Providence Lithograph Company, 1907

Mount Horeb, also known as Mount Sinai, is one of the most important religious sites in the Bible.  It was on Mount Horeb that Moses met God for the first time. As “the angel of the LORD appeared unto him [Moses] in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush …,” God commanded Moses to deliver the Hebrews from Egyptian bondage.[1]  In another display of God’s power, Moses later witnessed “the finger of God” pen the Ten Commandments on two tables of stone in the same ......

The concept of justice is a hot topic which began centuries ago.  More recently, the discussion has intensified, especially in light of the violence played out across the globe, from Missouri to Mexico to Honduras to Cleveland to New York.  As questions arise about the justice system, we ask what are the many faces of justice?

The word justice means “moral rightness, equity, honor and fairness,” according to The American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language.  It refers to “the administration and procedure of law.”  It revolves around “fair handling, due reward or treatment.”

Webster’s College Dictionary describes justice as “the moral ......
