The National Runaway Switchboard's mission "is to help keep America's runaway and at-risk youth safe and off the streets." In addition to information and a 24-hour crises line, they offer "Safe Place" for runaway teens. Focus Adolescent Services is a comprehensive website that provides information and resources to support teens and their families. They cover issues on various types of abuse, teen dating violence, teen drinking, anger, club drugs, eating disorders, grief and much more.
This is a beneficial website for youth age 13 and up who are thinking about running away. It includes a confidential, 24-hour help hotline for youth in Australia, Belgium, Canada, Hong Kong, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Finland, Netherlands, New Zealand, Northern Ireland, South Africa, United Kingdom and the United States. Call any time during the day or night to get help.
The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children provides protection for all children, specifically from sexual exploitation, sex offenders, and kidnapping. It has loads of information and resources to promote child safety. You can also get involved by helping to find and protect youth.
National Organizations for Youth Safety represents over 80 million youth and adults who "promote youth empowerment and leadership, and build partnerships that save lives, prevent injuries and enhance safe and healthy lifestyles among all youth." They share tips on safe dating, bullying, substance abuse, sexual health and more.
The Foundation for a Better Life offers inspiring and uplifting information and stories about people. You can add your own story, hero or quotes. It's a fun, interactive site that will encourage your heart.
Promoting Self-Esteem and Education
The Center for Talented Youth is considered "a world leader in the education of pre-collegiate students of high academic ability." Their programs "serve all qualified students regardless of their ability to pay.”
Hip Hop 4 Life "helps build self-esteem, confidence and sound judgment" in inner-city youth. Connect with these youth and get inspired!
Young People Changing the World
The FreeChild Project provides tools and training to young people that engage them in social change.
"Global Agents for Change is a social change catalyst, driving sustainable solutions to global poverty and inspiring youth to create a better world."
The Institute for Global Ethics helps "promote ethical behavior in individuals, educators, corporations and government . . . " They tackle the hard ethical issues of our day.
Youth worker Nelsa Libertad Curbelo Cora describes the inspiration behind Barrio de Paz (Peace Town), a non-violent youth movement in Guayaquil, Ecuador, that brings together street gangs to provide services to the struggling community.
